SMILE Ecumenical Ministries, Inc. is 100% volunteer; there is no paid staff.  There are over 200 volunteers at any given  time.

SMILE provided emergency assistance to 319 guests for utilities, rent, mortgage, medical, fuel, etc. in 2010.  Guests are allowed assistance 1 time per year.  There are very few exceptions to this policy.

SMILE services the area from Broomes Island Road south to Solomons.

SMILE served over 300, with carry-out dinners on Christmas Day at the American Legion Hall in Lusby, and helped to serve over 220 dinners for Thanksgiving at Catamaran's in Solomons. 

SMILE distributed 250 Easter dinner food baskets and over 560 bags of groceries for the Thanksgiving dinner baskets to our registered clients.

SMILE provided Christmas gifts to many families.

SMILE provided food from the Federal Commodities Program with several distributions each year.

SMILE’s avreage annual in the food pantry provided food for 11,184 families.

SMILE’s thrift shop provides clothing in 4 seasonal allotments,  for the persons that are signed up for the program,  and the number is growing.

SMILE's volunteer hours total over 21,372 in the thrift shop alone.

SMILE provides monthly assistance for Calvert Healthcare Solutions, Inc. and Friends of Calvert County Seniors.

SMILE provides a space for the Energy Assistance Program through STMCCAC twice a month.

SMILE has Ecumenical Worship Services for the community on Good Friday, Thanksgiving Eve and a Baccalaureate Service for Patuxent High School Graduates.

SMILE is responsible for the field layout and supervision (bridge side only) for Patuxent River Appreciation Days (PRAD).

SMILE provided 10 camp scholarships for youngsters to attend the 6-week summer session at the East St. John Youth Center.

SMILE has an open house in the Thrift Shop, twice a year and has many new items for sale.


Without your assistance in our community, SMILE could not exist.  We depend solely on our community to provide the good, clean usable articles to be held for sale in our Thrift Shop.  We also rely on the community for the generous support, whether time, talent or treasure.  We also encourage all of the community to shop in our thrift shop to help support our programs, and to discover “ Lusby’s best kept secret”.  We are always in need of good strong, reliable volunteers.
